You may have noticed the growing number of locks in your browser bar as you navigate the internet. Sometimes they are green, sometimes they boast the word “Secure”, but what does it all mean and most importantly, what does it mean to you?
Four years ago, Google announced it was going to use security as a ranking signal in it’s search engine results. In July of 2018, they came forward to say they will be marking site as “Not secure” in addition to the ranking signal.
You may be thinking you don’t need it on your site. You don’t collect money, you don’t have user accounts, etc. There are lots of reasons to pass this by. However, when users navigate to your site and start to see the words “Not Secure” or a broken padlock, it may effect your web traffic, your business and possibly your sales.
